About this day out
The Thomas Shop Museum in Penybont recreates a grocery store and drapery that flourished between 1805 and 1958, aiming to recapture the shopping era before the transformation of the late fifties. The counters, shelving and safe are original, and unlike many folk museums visitors are encouraged to handle and even try on some of the items. Opened as a permanent attraction in March 2003, entrance is free and refreshments are available in the Engine Room Cafe.

- Access is within the limits imposed by the Grade II listing: the museum has one small step but can otherwise be accessed from the car park through the Tea Room; the Laundry Gallery is accessible from the car park through the Tea Room; one toilet is designed for people with limited mobility (though not wheelchair users), and the Meeting House wet room can, when available, be used by wheelchair users.
