About this day out
Stryd Lydan Barn is a cruck and timber-framed barn at St Fagans created by linking two separate structures, the earliest a cruck-framed barn dating from about 1550 and a timber-framed structure built around 1600. Its walls are wattled with flat chestnut laths, it is thatched with wheat straw, and carpenters' marks on the timbers show it was first assembled in the carpenter's yard before being erected on site. The barn was moved to St Fagans in 1950 and opened to the public in 1951, and a circular mound outside holds a horse-engine used for driving a threshing machine.
