Saltwell Park, nestled in the heart of Gateshead, is one of Britain's finest examples of a Victorian park and a perfect place for the whole family. Its historical and peaceful grounds have earned awards such as Green Flag and Britain's Best Park, and it was voted 'The People's Choice' in 2018, making it among the top 10 parks in the country and the only park in the north of England to hold the award.
When to go
Opening calendar
Open daily. Park: dawn to dusk. Towers and tearoom: 9am to 3pm (sit in or take away). Prism Coffee in the Almond Pavilion: Tuesday to Sunday, 8am to 4pm.
