About this day out

Newhailes is a Palladian house that played a prominent role in the Scottish Enlightenment, featuring rococo interiors, Italian marble fireplaces, a Chinese sitting room and a fine art collection, explored via guided tours. The 86-acre estate offers 18th-century designed landscape with woodland walks and views across the River Forth, plus a Stables Café, gift shop, second-hand bookshop and the Weehailes Adventure Playpark.

Accessible parking spaces are 30m from the visitor centre, with drop-off at the archway entrance. The visitor centre, shop, café and toilets are all on one level, and there is an all-ability path in part of the water garden woods. However, the house is not fully accessible and the tour route involves several flights of stairs.

Dogs
Yes — it is a dog-friendly site. Well-behaved dogs on short leads are welcome in the café, shop and stables courtyard, and in large parts of the grounds. Dogs are not allowed in the playpark or crop fields.
