About this day out
Keal Carr is probably the finest surviving example of the alder carrs of the southern Wolds, a 12-hectare woodland Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Upper slopes are abundant with bluebells and red campion, while the permanently wet clay below supports alder and willow woodland traditionally coppiced, with marsh-marigolds carpeting the floor in spring. The reserve also has a rich and varied bird fauna, and the lower part is now a sanctuary area with no public access.
