About this day out

Ingatestone Hall is a Tudor house built by Sir William Petre, substantially retaining its original form with mullioned windows, high chimneys, crow-step gables and oak-panelled rooms. It has passed through fifteen generations of the Petre family, who still own and occupy it, and stands in open countryside one mile from the village of Ingatestone. Visitors can tour eight principal rooms and wander the ten acres of enclosed gardens, including lawns, a walled garden and a stew pond.

Accessibility: Wheelchair access is facilitated where possible, but as a 16th century house it is not ideal: there is no access to the upper floor, and although most of the grounds are accessible there are steep slopes and soft surfaces that may be difficult. The house is about a 200 metre walk from the car park.
Parking: Free parking in the Meadow Car Park, about a 200 metre walk from the house; picnicking permitted.
Dogs: Dogs (except guide dogs) are not permitted in the house or grounds.
