About this day out
Hampton Meadow is a 25-hectare nature reserve consisting of two fields: Hampton Meadow, a large area of old, traditionally managed hay meadow, and Big & Little Million Common, a smaller area of permanent pasture. The reserve has a nesting pair of Curlew in most years, and winter floods attract flocks of gulls and ducks such as Mallard, Teal and Wigeon, occasionally including Bewick's Swans. It is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
When to go
Opening calendar
No access to the reserve, except on public rights of way, from 1st March to 31st July annually (until 2025); for the remainder of the site there is open access.

- There are no surfaced paths and no wheelchair access at this reserve. Care is needed near the river due to numerous steep cliffs, and the entire site may be flooded in winter.

- At Hampton Bishop village.
- Dogs
- Dogs allowed on a lead; keep on short leads on public rights of way during bird nesting season (1st March to 31st July) and when livestock are on site, and under close, effective control at all other times.
