About this day out

Dunkirk Mill Museum, part of a large mill site in Nailsworth reached by an attractive walk from the Egypt Mill complex, offers the chance to see a massive working overshot waterwheel, installed in 1855, directly powering historic textile machinery. The museum, which holds Full Accreditation from Arts Council England, also displays an early 19th-century mechanical cloth-shearing cross-cutter and an exhibition on the historic development of the Dunkirk Mills site during the 18th and 19th centuries. The waterwheel is operated regularly on opening days, subject to water levels in the Nailsworth Stream.

Parking: Visitors can park for the day in Egypt Mill's large car park (register your car's number plate inside Egypt Mill on arrival), followed by a fifteen-minute walk along the cycle track. Blue badge parking is available beside Dunkirk Mill Museum itself, following signs towards Visitor Parking. Bus visitors from Stroud stop on the A46 at Dunkirk Mill and follow the driveway towards Dunkirk Mill Visitor Parking.
Dogs: Assistance dogs are welcome. Other dogs are admitted at the discretion of the lead guide (depending on visitor numbers and the animal's tolerance of noise and busy spaces), and may be asked to be tied up outside.
