About this day out
The Cockpit is a 17th-century circular thatched cockpit that originally stood in the yard of the Hawk and Buckle Inn, Denbigh. Moved to St Fagans in 1965 and opened to the public in 1970, its fighting stage and amphitheatre-style tiered seating are reconstructions, as the original internal fittings were probably removed in the late 19th century. After cockfighting was prohibited in 1849, the derelict building was used for purposes including a pig weighing centre and, more recently, a garage.
