About this day out

Kidwelly Castle is a medieval Norman fortress rising above the river Gwendraeth in Carmarthenshire. Begun in the early 12th century as a wooden 'ringwork' castle, it was rebuilt by the 1280s as the stone 'castle within a castle' that still stands today. It appears in the very first scene of 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail'.

Accessibility: Incline to main entrance via a wide non-slip concrete path leading onto a wooden slatted bridge; wheelchair/buggy access in the visitor centre and the monument; access to upper levels limited to walkers; portable induction loop available; surface can be uneven with gravel paths and cobbles that may challenge some mobility scooters.
