The experience
About this day out
Batford Springs Nature Reserve is a peaceful patch of countryside tucked into the urban landscape of Harpenden. It packs varied habitats into a compact area, including reedbeds, ponds, chalk streams, woodland and meadow, supporting a rich mix of wildlife. Its chalk streams are fed by boreholes drilled into the chalk layer beneath the reserve, and the site is maintained by the Batford Springs Volunteers, formerly the Upper Lea Valley Group.
