About this day out

Alloa Tower is the largest surviving keep in Scotland, dating back to the 14th century when it was built to guard a ferry crossing on the River Forth. It became the ancestral seat of the Erskine family, Earls of Mar and Kellie, and was lavishly updated by John Erskine, 6th Earl of Mar, with opulent 18th-century interiors featuring artworks by Raeburn and Van Dyck. Visitors can climb to the roof for views stretching across nine counties.
